Tribal Group plc

Acquisition of Callista Software Services Pty Ltd

Tribal Group plc (“Tribal”), a leading provider of software and services for education management, is pleased to announce that it has acquired the entire issued share capital of Callista Software Services Pty Ltd (Callista), a leading provider of student management systems to the Australian university market.

Callista provides its software to 25% of Australian universities. The Callista student management system is a mature software product, and the business benefits from long-standing relationships with its customers.  It is based in Geelong and Melbourne, Australia.

Tribal’s acquisition of Callista provides continuing support for the existing Callista software platform and the opportunity for Callista customers to access a wide range of complementary university software tools and products on the Tribal university platform.  The transaction will also offer synergistic benefits through sharing of intellectual property, know-how and resources in combination with Tribal’s existing Australian business.

Keith Evans, Chief Executive of Tribal, commented: “This transaction continues Tribal’s development in Australia, and allows us swiftly to offer our proven university software capabilities to an increased number of new customers across Australia.  Following our acquisition of Sky Software and Human Edge in 2014, and our recently announced state-wide TAFE contract wins in Queensland and Tasmania, Tribal is now a leading student management software provider to each of the university, TAFE and schools markets in Australia.”

Professor Jane den Hollander, Vice-Chancellor and President, Deakin University, commented: “Deakin University has been proud to own the Callista business over a number of years, developing the Callista product in close collaboration with our 11 partner universities and delivering a quality student administration system and services to the Australian market for 18 years.  I am confident that the sale of Callista to Tribal will offer exciting opportunities to Callista staff and will provide a platform to leverage additional value from Tribal’s broader global product and services capability.”

Professor Barney Glover, Vice-Chancellor and President, University of Western Sydney, commented: “On behalf of all the Callista customers under the Callista Service Agreement we very much look forward to working in close collaboration and partnership with a globally recognised industry specialist such as Tribal.  The Callista software plays a central and critical role in the effective operation of our institutions, and we believe this will provide new opportunities to further develop and enhance the essential services we provide to our students and local communities.”
